Albany, . . . July 1. Last Wednesday evening his Excellency
the illustrious General Washington, and his excellency the
Governor of this state, with their suites arrived in this
city--The day following the worshipful Mayor, Aldermen and
commonality, waited on his Excellency the General, and
presented him a respectful address, together with the
freedom of the city in a gold box.
When the Corporation went to present their address, they
proceeded in procession from the City Hall. At 6 o'clock,
P.M. the bells of all the churches began to ring and
continued their joyful peals until sunset, when thirteen
cannon were discharged from the Fort, and the city
illuminated.
Who is more worthy our love and esteem, than the guardian
and saviour of his country!
