Official intelligence being received by his Excellency the
Governor of a general cessation of hostilities, last
Thursday was appointed as the day of public rejoicings. . .
[1/2 column, official ceremonies, dinner, toasts]
At night the state-house, a superb building, was
beautifully and magnificently illuminated; and an elegant
entertainment was given to the ladies at the ball-room,
which concluded the evening. --The city never shone before
with such a numerous and brilliant appearance of ladies.
The whole was conducted with great propriety, harmony, and
decorum; and without any accident whatever to interrupt the
festive hours.
