Ran away from John Hobday, coach maker, living in Gloucester
County, in Virginia, a servant man, named Christopher
Lewellin, but goes by the name of Charles Lane, is about 5
feet 7 inches high, well set, and of a fair complexion,
somewhat pock fretten, has a large scar on the outside of
his left leg, and another near the crown of his head, cut
with a smith's slice, is about 23 years of age, born in
London, speaks very plain, was bred a blacksmith, and is a
very good workman, but pretends to be a sailor, he sings a
great many merry songs, is mark'd on the inside of his arms
with the Jerusalem arms, and between his fore finger and
thumb of his left hand, are the two initial letters of his
hame, C. L. set in with gunpowder; he stole his indentures
about 3 or 4 months ago; they were sign'd in London, and if
he has not destroyed them, it is likely he has wrote a
discharge on the back of them. . . [13 lines, various
assignees, clothing]
It is imagined he is gone towards Philadelphia, or
followed a woman, whom he has kept company with, to
Maryland.
. . . [6 lines, terms, three pistoles reward, signed] John
Hobday.
