Aix La Chapelle, Sept. 10. The extraordinary preparations,
which for many days have been so much talk'd of at this
place, for St. Lewis's day, have ended in nothing more than
a grand dinner . . . [17 lines follow describing the setting
and dinner] The feast passed over very joyously, and ended
with a sort of ball, to which every body of fashion was well
received . . . [4 lines about the absence of the publication
of the peace]. There were some people however weak enough
to lay wagers, that after dinner was over, all the
plenipotentiaries would repair to the townhouse, in order to
confer there for some small time, and that afterwards the
peace would be publish'd upon the beating of kettle drums
and sounding of trumpets . . . [3 more lines conclude the
description of the events of the day].
