far too great a proportion, or number of lawyers, in
Congress; and in every Senate, Council and Assembly, of
these United States? The House of Commons of England, from
the same cause is now become a mere venal Theatre: Every
ambitious unprincipled man of the profession, able to
purchase a seat in Parliament, makes it his grand and
primary object to get within those once respectable walls,
and there to offer himself at that corrupt and infamous
market; where the Minister purchases at pleasure, and, in
praise, according to the abilities and flexible sentiments,
of the wretch at sale. Let us learn wisdom from the folly,
the fatal folly, of other nations. Public evils are much
easier prevented, than got rid of when upon us.
