When Dr. Franklin and Silas Deane, were introduced to the
French King in quality of Ambassadors from North America,
they went in elegant coaches, attended by domestics in
superb French liveries, with a suite.  On their entrance
into the court-yard, martial music struct up, the soldiers
were under arms, and the French flag was lowered as a solemn
salute, which all the officers accompanied. . .
