Upon the glorious and memorable occasion of the compleat
conquest and capture of the British Army under Lord
Cornwallis, by the allied forces in Virginia,--the Honorable
Consul-General of France gave a ball, last Monday night, to
the Governor and Council, the Commodore and officers of His
Most Christian Majesty's ships in this harbour, the American
officers, and a great number of the principal ladies and
gentlemen of the town. The Consul open'd the ball with the
Lady of his Excellency the Governor. Every thing was
conducted with the greatest decorum, and the whole
appearance was brilliant. The joy of the evening was
particularly heightened by the mutual glow of friendship
between the two nations, which sparkled in every countenance
upon this happy occasion.
