[In letter to editor on falsehoods in public:]
I am no hypocritical zealot, therefore my practice and
profession seldom disagree; but when I see a man making the
most ample parade of rectitude and piety contradict it by
his actions, and affirming things merely to gratify
turbulent passions, regardless of truth, embellishing his
productions with the choicest flowers of rhetorick, fresh
gathered from Bilingsgate, in the same breath that he
declares his abhorrency of them, it presents to my
imagination the absurdity of a Scaramouch, whose motley
garb, and ridiculous antics prove how far beneath the
dignity of human nature individuals can descend.
