[Detailed description of the entertainment given by the
Chevalier de la Luzerne in honor of the birthday of the
Dauphin of France. 2nd paragraph:]
   At nine in the morning his excellency invited to his
apartments all the French, resident in Philadelphia, to
return thanks to the Supreme Being for the late blessing has
bestowed on the nation; this act of devotion was concluded
with singing Te Deum; after which the Chevalier de la
Luzerne received the visits and congratulations. . . [11

   His excellency invited more than fifteen hundred guests
both from this and the neighboring states to attend at this
entertainment, which began at eight in the evening. . . [1

L'Enfant, a French officer in the service of the United
States.  The hall in the center was 75 x 45, with an
orchestra on the side.  Last paragraph of the report:] 
   The entertainment began with a concert, succeeded by
fireworks, of superior and unrivalled excellence, and a
brilliant ball.  At one in the morning supper was served up,
followed by a continuation of the ball, and joy did not
cease to sparkle in the eyes of every one present.
