From the Pennsylvania Packet, July 22, 1779. W.H.D. to Sir
Henry Clinton, K.B.
Hitherto, Sir, I have addressed you as a British
commissioner: I now have the pleasure of writing a few lines
to you as the British Commander in Chief. . . [2 columns]
"Oh! Sir Harry Clinton! the sword, the spear of Britannia!--
the bells ring a peal--bonfires glare--conduits run--shouts
rend the air--and rockets fly up and decorate the heavens
with new stars in honour of Sir Harry Clinton! But, how
