Charlestown (South Carolina) Sept. 11.  Extracts of letters
from camp near Senecca.
August 18.  On the 12th ult. Col. Williamson came to
Tomawsat, where he saw signs of Indians very fresh; detached
Capts. Perkins and Anderson, with 60 men, to track them and
reconnoitre; . . . saw two Indians, and fired at them; the
Indians set up the war hoop and ran. . . [fight ensued]
being now almost sunset, [we] were called off by beat of
drum.
