Extract of a letter from one of the guards, on board a
transport at Spithead, dated Friday, the 27th instant.
I do not much like this job, they begin to learn us how to
live without victuals already. . . [3 lines] The Hessians
lie near us, and are a very religious kind of people; they
sing psalms and hymns all day, and almost all night, which
puts me in mind that my latter end is near at hand. I
heartily wish myself in London again. We expect to sail on
Monday.
