The education of youth is a subject that has been accurately
handled by men of the greatest learning, and genius in the
world. . . I would therefore make an humble attempt to adapt
the following lines to my own country also. . .
[Bottom of first column:] I now turn my thoughts upon the
common education of our females (especially in the maritime
towns) they are sent as soon as they can speak, to some
woman to be instructed in reading; then the use of the
needle; and many are sent three, or six months to learn
writing and arithmetic; next to dancing school (if people of
property) and then their education is compleat.
