London, March 30. When France, in the time of Louis the
Fourteenth, wanted to conciliate the affections of the
English nobility, in order to pave the way for her
intrigues, the leading men here were bribed with a picture
of the French King, a snuff-box, a ring, or some such toy.--
But France, now grown older, is grown more frugal also; for
she has commissioned her Ambassador here to bribe our
nobility with a--- dance. France wants at this time to
conclude a treaty of a dangerous nature with England; and in
order to effect this, the French Ambassador has orders to
entertain our nobility with Balls and Feasts.-- The gudgeon
seems to bite very well.
