London, May 21. Some time before the benefit of a
celebrated opera dancer, a noble Lord (Lord C----) being
very lucky the night before at Almack's, enclosed a 500l.
bank note to the lady for a ticket, in consequence of which
his Lordship received the following billet next morning.
My Lord.
"If your note was designed as a compliment to my stage
abilities, I think it too much; if as the prelude to a
connection, I think it too little; either way, you see, I am
reduced to return it, which I do, however, with many
compliments, for your good opinion. I have the honour to
be,
     S----k-street.
