London, Sept. 5. A lady of spirit, being lately refused by
her spouse a suit of clothes for a ball, sent for a broker
and sold him furniture to the amount of fifty pounds, the
sum required. The husband, on his return, being informed of
the affair, sharply rebuked her; to whom she replied, You
have no right to be angry, Sir, for my disposing of what you
freely gave me possession, when I married you, in these
solemn words, With all my worldly goods I thee bestow. The
gentleman, whether from conviction or shame, sent for the
broker, returned the fifty pounds with an acknowledgement,
and the lady now no sooner asks than hath, as she always
backs the request with a whisper in the ear, I must have
these things, Sir, or shall I send for the broker.-- Who
would be married?
