Extract of letters written in French, and dated at St.
Pierre's. . . [12 lines extract dated May 8, 45 lines
extracted dated May 9] Extract (dated 10th May) My
predictions respecting our fleet are but too well verified.
You may with justice say, that I am a true prophet. But to
come to the point, a Danish frigate, with left St. Domingo
the 18th of last month, fell in with three of our ships on
the 20th, standing for the Cape. . . [30 lines reporting
defeat of French fleet and capture of Count de Grasse] The
band of music is probably gone to the D--l, it is the first
instance ever known of having such people on board. I think
the concert must have been rather an unharmonious one.
