From the St. James's Chronicle. Sir, I have the honour to
serve my country for five and thirty years, as private
soldier, corporal, and sergeant. I was with my royal master
at Dettengen, and with the most noble Duke of Cumberland, at
the battle of Collodon Moor in 1745, and now live on a
pension of seven pounds four shillings per year in this
town. I am informed there has not been such a scene of joy
here, or such ringing of bells, with illuminations, since
the sixteenth day of December, forty-five, when their
darling Prince arrived from the north. . . [20 more lines
describing the Loyal Manchester Regiment to serve in
America] [signed] An Invalid, aged 72.
