The Political Spectator, Number IX.  To the People of
Massachusetts.
Friends and fellow-citizens,  Did I not love your freedom,
delight in your happiness, and shudder at your danger, the
sentiments of an unknown, and inconsiderable individual,
should not have intruded themselves upon you in this paper.
   This is a crisis, fraught with events, which while they
astonish the world, will fix a new epoch, that time itself
with all its changes can never subvert. . . [5-column essay.
At bottom of first column, the following reference:]
   The noble sentiments spoken in the character of Gustavus
Vasa, in the excellent dramatic performance of that name,
seemed to be wafted upon each breeze, and whispered by every
wind.
   "Oh liberty, heav'ns choice prerogative! true bond of
law, thou social soul of property. . . [16 more lines on
liberty, ostensibly quoted from the play.]
