London. . . August 4. On Saturday morning last General
Howe, attended by his Lady and Gen. Pitt, paid a visit to
the camp at Cox-heath. [Narrative of expressions of
affections from his previously commanded troops, who were
well supplied with liquor. On the arrival of a rumor of
Admiral Keppel's engagement and victory, a Lieut. L---, who
was quite drunk, galloped on a horse all over camp, damaging
much. End of second column:] The matter became serious,
because it was not known; and on a signal from the right,
the drums of every regiment beat to arms. The confusion
cannot be expressed; a continued scene of hurry, bustle,
shrieks of women, and shouts of men-- . . . [9 lines] At
last the intoxicated gentleman was secured by the quarter
guard of his own regiment, and all the hurly burly was
concluded. . .
