On receiving an invitation to a ball, in the present
critical situation of affairs.
A Card.
Decency presents her compliments to Gaiety, begs to be
excused the freedom of intruding on her mirth, but would
with submission acquaint her, that her constitution remains
in too delicate a state to admit her attendance in any
public occasion; would ask the indulgence of her desisting
for a short time from her sports; for however innocent they
may appear, she would inform her, the votaries of decency
think them not so agreeable at this particular crisis--hopes
gaiety will excuse the confident request of this card.
