Newport, Feb 10. Tuesday last, being the anniversary of the
ever memorable day on which the treaty of alliance with our
generous and illustrious ally was signed, the Baron and
Viscount de Viomenil, General Officers of the Army under the
orders of his Excellency Count de Rochambeau, and next to
him in command, gave an elegant ball to the ladies of this
town. The lady of General Greene, who commands the southern
army, honoured it with her presence.-- The decent gaiety,
and hilarity which characterized that assembly, affords a
convincing proof of the general satisfaction which the
alliance causes to both nations.
