FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT OF VOCAL MUSICK.
Shall birds their sweetest notes assume,
To their creator's, praise!
And shall not mortals dare presume,
A nobler song to raise?
Oh! tune my voice caelestial dove,
To strike some nobler sound;
Inspire my heart with sacred love,
To spread thy praises round.
These creatures sing thy providence,
And know no other song;
But I'll proclaim thy Sovereign grace,
The purchase of thy Son.
Now shall the angels be my guide,
To teach me what to sing,
Glory to God, who reigns on high,
To God my heavenly King.
