Europe, for June 1770.
The French King, leading monarch by the nose; the political
puppet-master of Europe.
The King of Spain holding in his hand a broken spear,
pointed cross the Bay of Biscay.
The King of Portugal, a feeble old man upon crutches; has
but one eye, which is fixed upon Madrid.
The Emperor dancing a Persian jigg with the French
Ambassador and seven electors.
