Historians tell us that the foundation of the city of London was begun before the days of Samuel the prophet; consequently it has been in being near 2900 years, as appears by a sepulchral stone, dug up (after the great fire in 1666) where Ludgate church is situated; which stone is still preserved at the Theatre in Oxford. |
