Extract of a letter from Dublin, September 1. Our
Lieutenant-Governor, the Lord Viscount Townshend and his
lady are the life of Ireland. His Excellency's tour to
different parts of this Kingdom took up 25 days, and spread
universal joy whethersoever he came. Among other places he
visited the lake of Killarny, one of the noblest beauties of
nature in the world. His Excellency has spent part of the
summer at the castle of Leixlip, a splendid and most
delightful retreat, where the nobility and gentry for miles
around formed brilliant assemblies. Here among other
entertainments were fine concerts; one of the
ee[n]tertainment was enlivened by the declamation and action
of Lord Townshend's two sons, who did great honour to Eton
school where they received their education.
