New-York, September 15. Our advices from the army, since
our last, are, that on the 23d of August, at 3 P.M. the
drums of the army were ordered to beat, and the musick to
play; upon which the batteries were opened and 4 large
morters, 2 of 13 and 2 of 10 inches diameter, began to play;
also a battery of six twenty-four pounders, another of 3
long twelves, and 3 royal hawitzars, and a distinct little
battery of 7 royals. From these we kept a brisk fire on the
enemy all night.
