London. July 28. The "Definitive Treaty" exciting so much
attention at present, the following quotation from a witty
writer is not inapplicable:--"If we consider most of the
treaties of these 100 years, what are they but political
comedies, with here and there a tragick scene interspersed,
and sometimes a tragical catastrophe?--Truces may be
compared to farces, which divert people after a doleful
tragedy!
