New Port, May 22. The following is take from a manuscript
account of the fire which happened in Boston last Wednesday
night. . . [24 lines] Instead of ringing the bells, as
usual, the soldiers beat to arms, by which means the people
were in great confusion, not being used to such signals in
time of fire.
