London. The following is his Majesty's answer to the humble
address, remonstrance and petition of the Lord Mayor
Alderman, and Commons of the city of London. . . [9 lines,
King's speech, followed by 30 lines Lord Mayor's reply,
followed by 12 lines editor's comments.]
N.B. the writer of the above account having given great
offence to some persons by inserting in a former paper, that
--Nero fiddled whilst Rome was burning--and an information
having been filled by the attorney general against the
printer in consequence, takes this opportunity to declare,
that is was not his intention to falsify an historical fact,
or to give offence to better memories; he hopes therefore it
will be admitted as a recompense, if he now declares, that
Nero did not fiddle whilst Rome was burning.
