May 9. On Saturday a great body of sailors met in St.
George's Fields in the east, and went to St. James's with
colours flying drums beating, and fifes playing, and
presented a petition to his Majesty setting forth the great
hardships they at present labour under on account of the
smallness of their wages, &c. and praying relief. They
divided themselves into two parties, one went over London
Bridge, the other marched through the city.
