A letter from Antigua of March 4, says, "Since the Stamp-Act
took place, an epidemical disorder followed it, which has
carried off one half of the white inhabitants of this
island: it is not in my power to describe the devastation it
has made, insomuch that the bells are forbid to ring, as is
customary when a person dies. . . [3 lines concerning the
affect of the disease on the military regiment.]
