Boston. Extract of a letter from a Merchant in London dated
March 4, 1766. . . [44 lines introducing article from Public
Advertiser regarding Stamp Act, 28 lines from article.]
Besides, from the character of his cronies, there is no room
to surmise the smallest breach of decency or friendship on
their part. Jemmy Twicher (Lord S--dw--h) is known never to
have betrayed his friend in all his life; and, indeed, from
Jack Bloomsbury's (D. of B--df--d) poverty and distress,
there may be some cause of suspicion, as he might be fain to
make another man father his child, merely for want of
ability to maintain it himself. . . [93 lines, Stamp Act] I
wish he could prevail on some of his great friends to
accompany him; they would dance more at their ease in the
long-room, than on the d---l's tomb-stone. . . [6 lines,
concluding comments on Stamp Act.] [signed] Thersites.
