Boston, May 2. On Tuesday last his excellency the governor
accompanied by the Hon. Harrison Gray, Esq; the Hon.
Secretary F[ ] and Mr. Sheriff Greenleaf, sat out for
Salem, to review the first regiment of foot in the County of
Essex, under the command of Col. Brown. . . The officers and
a respectable band of gentlemen then escorted the governor
to a splendid entertainment provided by them, which gave
universal satisfaction; in the evening a genteel ball was
given, at which there was a brilliant appearance of ladies,
and his excellency honoured the assembly with his company
until nine o'clock.
