Preparing for the press, and on suitable encouragement will
be speedily published, The Review: a serio-comic, heroic
poem, in three parts, in commemoration of the peerless
exploits of (a) the most magnanimous (b) Sergeant General
Proteus, (c) and his very modest and humble imitator, Major
Bluster. . .
This part to be closed with the Song of good, old simeon,
(g) "Now lettest, &c." proposed by the General to be sung,
by him, at the head of his regiment, on this occasion: The
harmony of which with the other part of the performance,
will most happily illustrate the [ ] (h) antipperistasis
in the General's character. . .
The whole to be closed with a song set to music, in praise
of the quick step, so notably executed by Major Bluster, (p)
who, to compleat the farce, dismounted to officiate as
Lieutenant Colonel (q).
[quote from Virgil in Latin]
"I sing the man! read it who list,
"A Trojan true---as ever p----t." [signed] Travestie.
[another quote from Virgil in Latin]
"When I've held up a proper number
"Of fools and knaves, and such like lumber,
"To public view and public scorn,
"Peaceful I'll to the shades return." [signed] Adventures of
a bank note.
