London.  Aug. 5.  Nothing can equal the surprize and
consternation of the inhabitants of Bath, on finding the
news confirm'd of the (late) great commoner's accepting a
peerage.  Many persons who had treasured up his speech
relating to the American Stamp-Act, immediately consigned it
to the flames; and we hear that at several places in the
country the bells rang muffled on the occasion.
