A letter from Alippo, dated March 1 O.S.
. . . [The Shah Nadir] has appointed twelve [mollas], or
priests, who are to be relieved by each other three in 21
hours, so that four are always to be on duty, who are to
hold wax candles and lamps fill'd with perfum'd oil in their
hands, while they sing hymns, full of his praises.
