Boston, May 2. On Tuesday last his Excellency the Governor
accompanied by the Hon. Harrison Gray, Esq; the Hon.
Secretary Flucker & Mr. Sheriff Greenleaf, set out for
Salem, to review the First Regiment of Foot in the County of
Essex; under the command of Col. Brown; . . . escorted his
Excellency to Col. Brown's, where he received the
compliments of the clergy, and a great number of other
gentlemen, many of whom spent the evening with the colonel,
and were most elegantly entertained. The next day, at one
o'clock, his Excellency, and the gentlemen who attended him
on this tour, walked in procession to the training-field,
where the Regiment was drawn up; . . . The officers and a
respectable band of gentlemen then escorted the governor to
a splendid entertainment provided by them, which gave
universal satisfaction; in the evening a genteel ball was
given, at which there was a brilliant appearance of ladies,
and his Excellency honoured the assembly with his company
until nine o'clock
