New-Haven, Sept 15. [2/3 column narrative of the public
chastisement of Nathan Smith who had informed falsely on a
prominent merchant, in metaphor of sailor on a ship.] . . .
being caught he was advance to the command of a cart,
suitably dressed out for the voyage, on whose quarter deck
no one, except himself and his musicians appeared, and thus
equipt, he took his landtacks on board, and being well found
and man'd easily made the most public parts of the town,
proclaiming himself a lyar, an informer, a pest to society,
and the like, and until he got safe moor'd in the first
mentioned birth--- [13 lines: tar and feather, no violence
or disorder.]
