A letter from Antigua of March 4 says, "Since the Stamp Act
took place, an epidemical disorder followed it, which has
carried off one half of the white inhabitants of this
island:  It is not in my power to describe the devastation
it has made, insomuch that the bells are forbid to ring, as
is customary when a person dies. . .
