The 21st [August, Paris]  A private letter from Versailes,
says, "Madame Pompadour gave a grand ball after the news of
Broglio's defeat.  What indecency to exult in the calamity
of her country, because it involved her enemy in disgrace ! 
But what better can we expect, while we are governed by a
King, who is governed by his mistress.
