Paris, in France, October 2.  The letter which the King
wrote to the vicar generals of this diocese, to cause Te
Deum to be sung for the victories gained over the English in
Europe and America, was as follows: . . .
'It is therefore to return thanks to God for these signal
favours, that I write this letter, to tell you, that my
intention is, that you cause Te Deum to be sung, &c.'
