New-York, March 12. Capt. King in a sloop belonging to this
port, arriv'd here on Wednesday last, in 11 days from
Havanna . . . . A gentleman of this city, who came
passenger with Capt. King, gave us the following
intelligence: That the Spaniards are determin'd at all
hazards, to scour the boasts near the Bay of Hondoras, on
which English or French were settled, and in particular to
place a strong fortification on Key-Bokeli . . .
We further learn by this gentleman, that two schooners
arrived at the Havannah about a week or ten days before he
left it, from the Tortuda Bank, where they met with the
wreck of a large ship, her bottom gone from her upper works,
and full of rum between decks, . . . They found a cut on the
bell, which they likewise brought off, Ship Pompey, 1744, by
which 'twas imagin'd to be the Ship Pompey, Capt. England,
from Jamaica for London, and was one of the fleet spoke with
before the gale, . . . [10 lines]
