On the 25th instant arrived here from Annapolis-Royal, Capt.
Miller in 5 days, and in him some of the gentlemen of that
garrison, by whom we are informed, That fortress is in a
good state of health, and high spirits, and notwithstanding
the severity of the season; have found means to make life
agreeable; And on his Majesty's birth-day his honour
Governour Mascarene gave a ball to the gentlemen and ladies;
which good example was followed by Major Phillips and Capt.
Floyer: And on the Prince of Wales birth-day a play was
acted by some of the gentlemen there (who gave a ball) and
by those that were judges it is said to be done in an
extraordinary manner, and to the acceptance of all
spectators: And that the arrival of Capt. Miller with the
agreeable news of Admiral Hawke's success, Mr. Cowley gave a
ball; and on the 2d of February, at the desire of Capt
Winslow, the play was re-acted; after which he gave a ball:
And that a spirit if peace and unity prevails in that
garrison.--And further we are informed, that very good
barracks are provided for the New-England troops designed
there.
