London, April 26. Yesterday noon on the arrival of the news
of the defeat of the rebels, by his Royal Highness the Duke
of Cumberland, the Park and Tower guns were immediately
fired, and were followed by the guns of Ludgate, and all the
ships in the River Thames, which were fired off several
times, and the flags on all our churches and ships
displayed; and on the approach of evening the streets were
filled with bonfires, the houses of all degrees of persons
finely illuminated, and the night was concluded with
fireworks, ringing of bells, and all other demonstrations of
joy.
