They write from Nancy, that the Marshal Mecheck and Mons.
Galaziere had taken Possession of Lorain, the former for
King Stanislaus actually, and the latter for the King of
France eventually. Before the ceremony began, the Regiment
of Navarre and the other French troops, marched out of the
city, the guard of which was entirely committed to the
townsmen Marshal Mecheck and M. Galaiziere repaired to the
Town-house, where the sovereign council was assembled, and
the late Duke of Lorain's letters patent for releasing his
subjects from their oaths of fidelity read, the reading of
which occasioned all the assistants to shed tears: when the
ceremony was over, the council follow'd Marshal Mecheck and
M. Galaizier to the cathedral, where Te Deum was sung, and
for the first time was said Domine salvum regem, instead of
ducem, and in the prayer, Stanislas regi nostro, instead of
Stephane Duci nostro, which drew fresh tears from the
assistants.
