Last Friday being set apart by his Excellency our Governour
for publick rejoycings upon the news of the marriage of the
Princess Royal of Great Britain, with his serene Highness
the Prince of Orange, the same was observed with great
splendor, several noble entertainments being given by his
excellency on this happy occasion, to many of the first rank
here: Early in the morning a great number of gentlemen
waited on his excellency at his seat here, where having
breakfasted, they attended his Excellency on board his
Majesty's Ship Scarborough, drums beating & trumpets
sounding before the procession as they pass'd along, and the
guns on board the ships at the wharffe discharg'd upon their
coming by; they were received in a handsome manner on board
the Scarborough, under the discharge of their cannon: after
some stay on board, his Excellency and the gentlemen with
him in several boats, sail'd for his Majesty's Castle
William, upon their putting off, were again saluted by the
discharge of the cannon on board; and upon their arrival at
the Castle, they were saluted by the discharge of the
artillery there; being received by his Hon. the Lieut.
Governour, and conducted to his apartment, his Excellency
there entertained all the gentlemen with a most splendid
dinner, and a fine concert of musick, landing; Then they
walked to Mr. Lutwyche's Long Room in King-street, where his
Excellency gave a ball to a great number of gentlemen and
ladies. And several gentlemen being invited to Col.
Wendell's, they were there entertain'd with a plentiful
supper.
On this happy occasion the bells in town, continued ringing
from about six in the morning, till towards the close of the
day. . .
A terrible accident happened with a cannon at Castle
William, and the gentlemen and governor:] compassionating
the poor man's condition, presently raised one hundred
pounds for him, by subscription.
