Edinburgh, Aug. 27. Mr. Paterson, surveyor of the customs
at Leith, did upon Thursday the 23 of this instant, in the
morning, seize out of a cellar at Kinghorn, 4 hogsheads of
wine, after his being deforced about 11 o'clock the night
before from 4 hogsheads more, having only a party of a
corporal and 6 men, who behaved themselves with great
bravery; but the fire-bell being rung, and the mob
increasing, they were obliged either to abandon the wine, or
commit much bloodshed; and they chose the first. The first
mentioned wine he brought to Leith, and lodged the same in
the King's warehouse.
