Mr. De Blois in Justice to himself, thus informs the
publick, the scandalous advertisement publish'd in the last
Monday's Gazette, setting forth the place of his birth, was
without his privity and knowledge, and maliciously contrived
as a national reflection, and to render him obnoxious to
many worthy gentlemen. He hopes the author of that paper
will for the future be more circumspect, least he forfeits
the good character he hitherto has established, as well as
the credit of the performance.
Whereas in the above advertisement it is suggested, that the
author of the Boston Gazette, published a national
reflection, &c. This is also to inform the publick, that
the author of that paper, did not think it any national
reflection, nor that it had any tendency in the least to
make Mr. De Blois obnoxious to any person whatsoever.
Whereas it is reported, that Mr. De Blois not long ago
declared to certain persons of the Irish nation, that he was
bred and born in Dublin, and that soon after a certain
advertisement came out pointing at Oxford as the place of
his birth, he acknowledged to the same men, that he was not
born in Ireland.
This is to let Mr. De Blois know, that he is earnestly
desired by many of his friends and well wishers, to set this
matter in a clear light in the next Monday's Gazette. For
tho' it is no reflection to be born in either Ireland or
England, yet it is a heavy reflection upon Mr.DeBlois, that
he hath deny'd his country.
