New York June 1.  The 28. past arrived here Phoenix &
Bilison from North Carolina & His Majesty's Ship Deal Castle
last from Virginia, with Pacquets from court for his
excellency our Governour, &c. and that day at noon the
garrison and militia of this city being under arms, His
Majesty's declaration of war against Spain and a
proclamation for pardoning of piracles committed before the
1st of July next were published, and it being his Majesty's
birth day, the artillery of the garrison were fired and the
three men of war now here, and the ships in the road fired
their guns, and at night his excellency had a ball in the
fort, and a fine entertainment for the company, and the
finest fire works ever seen in New York:  There was also a
noble bonfire, with a great deal of wine at the charge of
the corporation, where his excellency and council, the
General Assembly, Mayor, Aldermen and common council, and
most of the principal inhabitants met and drank his
Majesty's health, the Prince and Princesses, Prince
Frederick, the Royal Family and many other loyal healths,
the whole city was finely illuminated, and the night ended
in all imaginable demonstrations of joy.  His Majesty's Ship
Diamond, commanded by Capt Jacob was finely illuminated
having about eighteen hundred lanthorns.
